Best Beaches in the UAE for a Day Out

Inspired by the landscapes of the UAE — wear the wild side of it

With two very different coastlines — the calm Arabian Gulf to the west and the clear, reef-rich Gulf of Oman to the east — the UAE has a beach for every kind of day out. Whether you want gentle water for the family, a snorkel over a living reef or a quiet stretch away from the resorts, the spots below are our favourites.

Each has access notes, the best season and a difficulty rating, so you can pick the right beach for your plans and travel prepared.

East coast vs west coast

The west coast (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah) has long, sandy, generally calm beaches that are great for families and easy swims. The east coast (Fujairah and the Gulf of Oman) trades some of that calm for clearer water, coral reefs and marine life — it is the place to go for snorkeling and a more natural feel. Pick based on whether you want easy sand or underwater scenery.

Best beaches for snorkeling

For snorkeling, the east coast wins. Healthy coral, turtles and reef fish are reachable straight from shore at the best spots, making it a brilliant outing for families and beginners. Go early on a weekday for the calmest, clearest water, bring your own mask and fins, and always wear reef-safe sunscreen to protect the coral.

Beach safety and etiquette

Swim where it is permitted, be aware of currents and check for flags or signage. Keep an eye on children near the water, stay hydrated, and use shade and high-SPF sun protection — the UAE sun is strong even in winter. Take all your rubbish home, give wildlife space, and never touch or stand on coral.

Best season for the beach

The sea is most comfortable from around October to May, with pleasant air temperatures and warm-but-refreshing water. Summer is swimmable but very hot on the sand, so go early or late in the day. Winter mornings can be breezy on the east coast, so bring a layer.

Frequently asked questions
