Mleiha Desert

The Mleiha desert in Sharjah is one of the UAE's most otherworldly landscapes — golden dunes broken by wind-carved rock outcrops, ancient tombs and the famous Fossil Rock. It's a designated archaeological area where the scenery feels almost lunar, drawing photographers, dune drivers and history lovers alike.

You can self-drive the dunes (technical in places), explore the visitor centre and Bronze Age sites, or simply chase the light around the rock formations at sunset. An easy hour from Dubai, it pairs a striking desert backdrop with a real sense of the region's deep history.
