Half Desert

Half Desert is a gentle stretch of rolling dunes close to Dubai, making it one of the best places in the UAE to learn desert driving. The soft, forgiving sand and modest dune heights are far less intimidating than the giants at Liwa, so it's a popular spot for first-timers to practise airing down, reading the terrain and building confidence.

Head out with a tyre deflator, a basic recovery kit and ideally a more experienced convoy. Late afternoon brings cooler sand and golden light across the dunes. It's a quick, easy escape from the city for an evening of off-roading.
