Wadi Kub sits deep in the Hajar mountains near Masafi, a rugged, quiet valley that has become a favourite wild-camping and off-road escape. Rocky terraces, gravel beds and mountain silence make it the kind of place you go to pitch a tent far from the crowds and fall asleep under a huge sky of stars.
The scenery is classic Hajar — folded grey peaks, dry watercourses and the occasional hardy acacia — and the remoteness is the whole appeal. It suits self-sufficient adventurers: there are no facilities, so carry everything in and pack everything out, and a high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle helps on the rougher approaches.
Aim for the cooler months from October to April, when the nights are comfortable for camping. Tell someone your plans, download offline maps, carry plenty of water and a first-aid kit, and travel with others if you are heading well off the beaten track.
